Joseph Barnhill, Jr.

Graveside services for Joseph “J. R.” Barnhill, Jr., a Wardville resident, were held Monday, June 12, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Wardville Cemetery with Pastor Gary Weeden officiating. Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Barnhill was born September 20, 1931 to Joseph “Joe” and Mary (Broadstreet) Barnhill at Wardville, OK and passed away June 7, 2023 at Coalgate, OK at the age of 91 years, 8 months and 18 days. He attended Wardville School and married Tilly Barnhill. She preceded him in death. J.R. was a rancher for many years. He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed working his cattle and living the farm life.

Survivors include a niece, Carlin Weeden and husband Clyde of Wardville; nephew, Leroy Batts and wife Carolyn of Brenham, TX; great nieces and nephews, Charles Gaskamp and wife Linda of Burton, TX, Desteny Gaskamp of Wardville, Leroy Batts Jr. and wife Michelle of Brenham, TX, Wendy Mills and husband Kevin of Austin, TX, Amy Kananen and husband Doug of Chicago, IL, Jimmy Batts and wife Kelly of Atlanta GA, and Penny Justmann and husband, Mike of Conroe, TX. He was preceded in death by his wife, Tilly Barnhill; parents, Joseph “Joe” and Mary (Broadstreet) Barnhill; sisters, Mable Batts and Gladys Barnhill and infant brother.

Casketbearers were Jeff Newberry, Cody Newberry, Brandon Newberry, Jason McEntire, Heath McEntire, and Lonnie Williams.
