Service Held for Betty Lou Sikes

Graveside services for Betty Lou Sikes, an Atoka, OK resident, were held Monday, July 24, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Green Meadows Cemetery in Atoka with Cody Newberry and Claude Lovett officiating. Brown’s Funeral Service of Atoka was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sikes was born June 15, 1936 to Bert Wilke and Thelma Ethel (Goad) Harper at Seminole, OK and passed away July 21, 2023 at Atoka at the age of 87 years, 1 month and 6 days. She attended Shawnee Public Schools where she graduated in 1954. Betty went on to receive an associates degree from Neff Business School. She was a secretary at the Atoka State Bank and Dr. Rippee’s office, as well as the owner of Ray’s Diner for 25 years.

Betty married DW Sikes March 18, 1955 at their home in Shawnee, OK. She was of the Baptist faith and liked arts and crafts, traveling, trips to Branson, shopping anywhere, going to the movies and hanging out with family. Betty was a good cook.

Survivors include her husband, DW Sikes of the home in Atoka; daughter, Sindy Newberry and husband Jeff of Atoka; grandsons, Cody Newberry and wife Jeanne of Coalgate and Brandon Newberry and wife Kelsey of Caddo, OK; greatgranddaughters, Emma Newberry of Coalgate, Layni Newberry of Caddo and Rainey Davidson of Coalgate; great-grandsons, Callen Newberry, Hunter Davidson and Briar Davidson, all of Coalgate.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Thelma Ethel (Goad) “Harper” -Dorris; and stepfather, Ray Dorris.

Casketbearers were Jeff Newberry, Cody Newberry, Brandon Newberry and Curtis Southern.
