Service held for Laura Smith

Funeral services for Laura Mae (Arterberry) Smith, a Durant resident, raised in the Farris community and later spent 25 years in Coalgate, were held Thursday, March 19, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Atoka with Cecil Mackey officiating. Burial was in Farris Cemetery with Brown’s Funeral Service of Atoka in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Smith was born May 15, 1941 to Sam and Leona Bell (Bomesburger) Arterberry at Farris, OK and passed away March 16, 2020 at Durant at the age of 78 years, 10 months and 1 day. She attended Farris Elementary and Atoka High School and was a CNA, home provider, caregiver, and worked in Atoka and Coalgate nursing home. Laura married Cleatus D. Smith in 1957 at Farris and later married George Isom; both preceding her in death. She lived life as a Baptist, loved camping, fishing, listening to music, watching NBA, was an avid Thunder fan, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughters, Ronda Eldridge and husband Russell of Tushka, OK and Judy Nichols and husband Reggie of McAlester, OK; grandchildren, Dwayne Eldridge and wife Lynn, Rachel Jones all of Tushka; Tra Nichols and wife Michelle of Durant, Laramie Nichols and wife Leslie of Hartshorne, OK and Jodi Lott of Scipio, OK; great-grandchildren, Harley, Kylie, Elle Jo, Kinley, Colton, Kyra, Ryenn, Madison, Brooklyn, Lennon, Max, Harper, and Casen; very special friend, Lenora Arnold Sheffield of Farris; niece, Glenda Cross and husband Rocky of Mead, OK; along with other relatives and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cleatus Smith; love of her life, George Isom; brothers, Charlie Arterberry and J. B. Arterberry.

Casketbearers will be Dewayne Eldridge, Colton Jones, Tra Nichols, Laramie Nichols, Jarod Hatcher, and Case Roberson.
