LETTER TO THE EDITOR

After the attack on the Uvalde, TX elementary school, I volunteered to help provide security at the Coalgate School without compensation.
My qualifications are 25 years as a state trooper, Associate Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminology, Advanced Oklahoma Law Enforcement Certification, Military Police Officer Training and 40 hours of Special Reaction Training.
I am a Vietnam Veteran and have served in various positions to include: Provost Marshall, Inspector General and Director of Security (IMA) Ft. Riley, Kansas.
I have to qualify with my weapon once a year in order to comply with Federal Law as a retired police officer in order to carry a concealed weapon anywhere in the United States.
I have been informed by reliable sources that the Sheriff’s Office has only one resource officer to cover Coalgate , Cottonwood and Tupelo Schools.
However, my offer was rejected due to the agreement with the Sheriff’s Office that if the school hires or accepts any other security, the Sheriff will withdraw his security.
