Coal County Sheriff’s Report
Coalgate man faces firearm and drug charges
A Coalgate man was arrested the night of November 7 after he was stopped for speeding on CR 1740 and the deputy found a loaded gun and marijuana in his vehicle.
Deputy Austin Golden said when he made contact with the driver, 28-year-old Logan Earl Woods, he detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Woods admitted he had a pipe in the vehicle.
Golden said when he asked Woods to exit the vehicle, Woods reached for the center console, saying he had a pistol in it. He was ordered to keep his hands up, not to reach for the gun, and to step out of the vehicle.
Woods began resisting, the deputy said, so he opened the door of the vehicle to place him under arrest. When Woods reached for the console again, Golden used a CLEET approved vehicle extraction to subdue him and place him under arrest.
A Heritage .22 magnum revolver and a glass smoking pipe containing marijuana were recovered from the vehicle. Woods was transported to jail.
He has pleaded not guilty to felony possession of firearm after former conviction of felony. He was convicted on a drug charge in Atoka County in 2016.
He has also pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor possession of controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and carrying a concealed weapon. He has been released from custody on $25,000 bond and is scheduled for a December 6 court appearance.
