Funeral services for Roy Lynn Burkhalter, a lifelong Atoka County resident, were held Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Atoka with Rev. Roger Brown and Bro. Paul Silvers officiating. Burial was in Green Meadows Cemetery in Atoka with Brown’s Funeral Service of Atoka in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Burkhalter was born September 24, 1955 to Wilburn Leon and Beulah M. (Hamilton) Burkhalter at Antlers, OK and passed away October 29, 2024 at Dallas, TX at the age of 69 years, 1 month and 5 days. He attended Thunderbird Grade School, graduated from Atoka High School in 1973, then went on to Murray State College where he played baseball and received an Associate’s Degree in History. He later attended SEOSU. Roy was a lifelong building contractor and worked at Atoka Livestock Auctions for the Cochrans. He married Debbie Citron in 2001 in Atoka and they celebrated 23 years together before his passing. Roy was of the Pentecostal Faith and was affiliated with Mountain View Pentecostal Church, was a bull rider and a team roper. He enjoyed ranch rodeos, hunting, fishing, was an avid deer hunter, enjoyed playing coed softball and loved his family and his many coffee drinking friends.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie Citron of the home in Atoka; daughters, Amity Apsey and husband Chris of Ada, and Sabrina Vaughn and husband Adam of Durant; son, Michael Wafford and wife Marty of Wapanucka; grandchildren, Connor and Emily Apsey of Ada, Breuklynd and Zachary Vaughn of Durant, and Cash and Lainee Wofford of Wapanucka; sister, Holley Lowrance and husband Rick of Hugo, OK; brother, Kimy Burkhalter and wife Terry of Caney, OK; nephews, Eddie Henry of Tushka, Leith Burkhalter and wife Randi, Kirby Burkhalter all of Caney and Bodee Gene Burkhalter of Lehigh, OK; nieces, Apryl Pritchett and husband J. B of Tushka, and Jasmine Muse of Hugo, OK; along with numerous beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, other relatives and many dear and loved friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Bea (Hamilton) Burkhalter; special aunt, Ginger Silvers and sister, Cleta Jean Burkhalter.

Casketbearers were Eddie Henry, Zachary Vaughn, Adam Vaughn, Leith Burkhalter, Kirby Burkhalter, J. B. Pritchett, Kim Burkhalter, and Chris Apsey. Honorary bearers were Jimmy Smith, Rickey Hunt, Rick Jones, Jerry Don Burkhalter, Dennis Burkhalter, Ronnie Tomlinson, Tim Pipken, Jim Andrews, Jim Sprague, Gerald Eaves,and Jim Turner.
