Jimmy Standridge was one of the best sharpshooters in that era of Coalgate HS basketball. He led the Wildcats to two stunning upsets in the 1955 state playoffs by upsetting Colbert 54-51 in spite of All-Stater Arlen Clark who finished with 32 points. Jimmy countered with 33 by scoring 12 field goals and nine free throws to lead the Wildcats to the stunning upset.

Coalgate High School is proud to honor Tommie Kay Weeden Martinez, a 1990 graduate, as a 2025 inductee into the CHS Athletic Hall of Fame. A dedicated and accomplished athlete, Tommie Kay excelled in basketball, track, and field, particularly in shot put and discus. Her perseverance, talent, and determination made her one of the most dominant throwers in CHS history.

Braedy Wardrope, a former Coalgate High School student, made history on February 1 by winning the very first Miss South Tulsa County Miss America preliminary pageant. She will compete for the title of Miss Oklahoma the first week of June at Rose State College in Oklahoma City.

Kurtis J. Kirby, 53, Atoka, was arrested shortly after 2:00 a.m. December 28 following a traffic stop at the intersection of Broadway and E. Lafayette. Officer Christian Minyen, a Choctaw Lighthorse Police Officer crosscommissioned with the Coal County Sheriff’s Office, stopped Kirby’s Honda for having a border plate that obstructed the top part of the tag.
