Helen Geraldean Layton

Funeral services for Helen Geraldean (Evans) Layton, a lifelong Farris, Stringtown, and Caney, OK resident were held Friday, August 12, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Atoka with Rev. Vick Cook officiating. Burial was in Redden Cemetery in Stringtown, OK with Brown’s Funeral Service of Atoka in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Layton was born August 2, 1934, to Willard William and Alberta (Chitwood) Evans at Farris, OK and passed away August 9, 2022, at Durant, OK at the age of 88 years and 7 days. She attended Farris and Atoka Public Schools and was a housewife and homemaker. She was also a cook and did housekeeping in the local nursing home.

Helen married Jack Harest Layton July 19, 1957, at Durant and they celebrated 58 years of marriage before his passing in 2015. Helen was a member of Pleasant View Free Will Baptist Church for many years. She was the most amazing cook, enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, and doing arts and crafts.

Survivors include her children, John Layton of Coleman OK, Debbie Crites of Durant, and Russell Layton and wife Michelle of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Waylon Layton of CA, Krystle Culbreath and husband James, Megan Fincher and husband Scott all of Caney, Kacey Layton of Coleman, Chelsie Bonham and husband Keith of Durant, Kyle Layton and wife Ariole of Coleman, Macie Eddings and husband Mason of Russett, OK,

Chase Crites and wife Bailey of Coalgate, and Alexis Gaus of San Antonio, TX; great-grandchildren, Halli Culbreath, Carson Culbreath, Ava Layton, Bree Fincher, Austin Fincher, Alex Fincher, Blakely Preston- Crites, Scout Bonham, Bexley Crites, Treyden Layton, Austin Eddings, and Palmer Bonham; daughter-in-law, Diane Layton of Caney, OK; and her family members “employees” of Four Seasons Nursing home who lovingly referred to her as Gran; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard William and Alberta (Chitwood) Evans; husband, Jack Layton; son, Jackie Layton; daughter-in-law, Angie Layton; siblings, Alonzo Joel Evans, Charles William Evans, Walter “Bud” Hill Evans, Susan “Sis” Evelyn (Evans) Blair, Edward James Evans, Cathrine Louise Evans, Sarah “Boots” Elizabeth (Evans) Brewer, Delores “Dink” Maxine (Evans) Head, Arthur “Sonny” Willard Evans, Winfred Dale Evans, Joyce Columbine (Evans) Layton, Lois Caroline Evans.

Casketbearers were Chase Crites, Mason Eddings, Keith Bonham, Scott Fincher, Hunter Mills, and Derrick Haworth. Nieces and nephews served as honorary bearers.
