William “Don” Wood

Graveside services for William “Don” Wood, a Coalgate resident, will be held Wednesday (today), April 17, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Don Wood Cemetery in Roundhill Community in Coal County with AJ Horn officiating, assisted by Pastor Lyle Shipley. Arrangements are under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate.

Mr. Wood was born August 3, 1932 to William and Katherine (Nesbit) Wood at Coalgate, OK and passed away April 11, 2024 at his home in Coalgate at the age of 91 years, 8 months and 8 days. Don graduated from Coalgate High School in the Class of 1947. After high school he served as an electrician’s helper in the United States Army, stationed in Germany during the Korean War. Don worked in the oil field for 30 years on the Alaskan North Slope. He was known as a “Mudman” but he had many duties during his time. He was a rancher his whole life, working alongside his family and friends. Don married Debra Lynn Flowers on October 29, 1989 at Mena, Arkansas. They were married 34 years and enjoyed 41 wonderful years together before his passing. If you were lucky enough to know Don, you’d know he had the biggest heart. He stood with honesty and integrity in everything he did. He helped someone if he could and preached kindness above all. For this Don was respected by many. He spent his time doing what he loved with the people he loved, and for that we are very blessed.

Survivors include his wife, Debby Wood of the home in Coalgate; son, Tommy Wood of Coalgate; daughter, Nicole Wood and partner Jared Klingler of Norman, OK; stepson, Levi Bolgrien and partner Nikki Conrad of Coalgate; special cousin, Jahree Standridge of Coalgate; grandchildren, Candice Ott of Hartshorne, OK, Adam Cole of Coalgate, Shelby Wood and partner Ross Anderson of Atoka, Colton Wood, Deiondra Howard, and Imri Bolgrien all of Coalgate; great-grandchildren, Parker Cole of Coalgate, Wren Anderson and Valerie Anderson, both of Atoka; along with many other special nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones that there wasn’t enough paper in the world to list. You were all loved and thought of.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patti Lanelle Wood; wife, Lenora Childress; parents, Bill and Katherine Wood and brother, Phillip Wood.

Casketbearers will be Zack Hunt, Gary Crowley, Phillip Allen, Jerrard Allen, Colton Wood, Levi Bolgrien, Preston Cole, Jamie Ward, and Adam Cole. Honorary casketbearers will be Jimbo Eclair, Jim Hudson, Mike Vaughn, Tim Thomas, Frank and Mary Sells, Jimmy O’Flannigan, Joe Childress, Gary Vaughn, David Cometti, Rick Mann, Bobby Horner, J.C. Stiles, Mike Thomas and Chris McCoy.
